The DTI VI
sent two DTI-assisted enterprises in Thailand to join more than 2,800 producers
from other parts of the globe in the Thailand OTOP Fair (OTOP Silapacheep 2016)
in Bangkok, Thailand, which runs from August 12 to 20, 2016.
Indag-an
Primary Multi-Purpose Cooperative Chairperson Marjorie Segurigan from Brgy.
Indag-an in Miag-ao, Iloilo and JAF Handicraft and Piña Industry owner Juler A.
Fernandez from Brgy. Old Buswang in Kalibo, Aklan displayed their products at
the OTOP Silapacheep 2016.
Indag-an
Primary Multi-Purpose Cooperative produces ‘hablon’ fabrics, shawls, placemats,
scarfs and barong, among others. ‘Hablon’ is a hand-loomed fabric made from
cotton, abaca or other indigenous fibers.
Fernandez,
on the other hand, is a producer of handwoven fabrics for men and women such as
barong, gowns, shawls, scarves, wraps, among others made from handwoven fabrics
from indigenous fibers like pineapple, abaca, silk or cotton.
According
to the information from the Community Development Department of Thailand, which
organized the event, the activity is in celebration of Her Majesty Queen
Sirikit’s 7th cycle birthday anniversary on August 12, 2016.
It is also
to honor Her Majesty’s work and relentless contribution to alternative
livelihood of the people to evaluate their income; and, to increase marketing
channel for potential OTOP producers/ entrepreneurs to exhibit and sell their
quality products.
The event
is seen to further the market linkage of these enterprises to other parts of
the globe.
