The photo showing a consumer examining the freshness of the fish while the fish vendor is looking on was adjudged the best photo entry in the recently concluded Snap, Like and Share Photo Contest of DTI VI.

Mary Jane Baje of San Pedro National High School in San Jose, Antique took home the P5,000 cash prize and Certificate of Recognition for winning first place during the awarding ceremony at the DTI Regional Office on Friday, October 28.

Baje bested 19 other entries from all over the region.

The second place was bagged by Juan Manuel Dela Cerna of the College of St. John – Roxas City, Capiz; while, the third place was won by Hans Gerald Adelantar of Tanque National High School, Roxas City, Capiz.

The photo contest was part of the annual celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) during October. This year, the CWM was hosted and lead by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) with the theme: “Consumer Protection: A Shared Responsibility.”

The theme emphasizes the importance of working together among government agencies and business in ensuring that consumers are accorded the protection needed. Consumers are likewise responsible for their own protection. They should not only be aware of their rights as consumers but take measures to know and make informed decisions about their transactions.

Observance to proper and standardized weighing is a mutual responsibility of consumers and vendors, alike. Remember – if it’s not right, use your right. (by Juan Manuel Dela Cerna, College of St. John – Roxas City, Capiz/ / DTI Snap, Like and Share second place winner)
