2017 Panubli-on Heritage Awardee - Capiz

PASCUAL DEITA

Mr. Pascual Deita is a producer of fine-crafted bamboo products from Brgy. Bonga, Panay, Capiz.  His artistic prowess and creativity were developed when, as an out-of-school youth in 1975, he was identified as one of the scholars of the Capiz Provincial Government of a vocational course on bamboo craft production offered by the Capiz Model Production Center of NACIDA (National Cottage Industries Development Authority) in Ivisan, Capiz.

After graduation, he worked in several bamboo craft manufacturing firms in the province that better enhanced his skills on weaving and design interpretation.  From 1985 to 1992, he became the sample maker and quality control officer of Silak International, Corp., a Roxas City-based manufacturer of export quality products made of bamboo.

When the company closed in 1992, he started his own bamboo craft business and has provided livelihood to his relatives and neighbors up to the present.  Every now and then, he is tapped by the LGUs, NGAs and private organizations as trainer.

Mr. Deita has perfected his craft and sustained the livelihood of at least 15 relatives and friends in the neighborhood.
