Loreta E.
Zaragosa, the great matriarch of the Katikati community in Brgy. San Miguel,
Jordan, Guimaras started weaving at the age of six.
“Ubaye,” or
grandmother, as she is fondly called by her 45 grandchildren, Lola Loreta had
crafted a beautiful piece of arts in the hearts of her grandchildren through
her untiring stories on ATI Indigenous legends such as Ïro kag anipe” (the
mouse cat and the snake) and Lotung and Biyuo (monkey and the turtle) and
weaving skills which has already passed on to her children, grandchildren and
great grandchildren.
Lola Loreta is also an active
member of JACA (Jordan Ati Community Association). She always participate and
attend meetings and seminars even different activities in the community.
She
specializes in making coin purse made of buri and nito. She said that 100
percent of the family’s income is derived from weaving. At her age of 95, according
to the children and grandchildren, Ubaye Loreta has now 100 great grandchildren
and still counting.
