Beware of scammers posing as DTI Secretary

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) alerts the public, including all its officials and employees, on individuals posing as the new Trade and Industry Secretary, Adrian S. Cristobal, Jr.

Recently, an impostor made several calls to the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) and demanded for confidential information and subsequently solicited for financial assistance for the new Secretary’s welcome party.

“The Office of the Secretary (OSEC) denies the said act of solicitation and that there is no such welcome activity,” DTI Consumer Protection Group Undersecretary Atty. Victorio Mario A. Dimagiba said in his memorandum issued to regional offices and employees.

“The DTI condemns such deception” and urged its officials and staff to first verify with the OSEC any call or email received “asking for financial assistance to conduct department activity, Dimagiba added.

The DTI reiterates that under Section 7of Republic Act No. 6713, it is prohibited for any government official, staff and as an office to solicit cash and goods from any individual or entity to conduct official activities.
