DTI Capiz Provincial Director Ermelinda P. Pollentes and Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tangco, Sr. led the distribution of the final batch of the livelihood starter kits intended for Yolanda-affected micro-entrepreneurs in the province at the Capiz Gym last week, December 28, 2015.

Pollentes said that there were several beneficiaries who were not able to receive their kits, but will be informed through a text message on where and when to claim their kits. Of the 614 listed beneficiaries, only 506 were able to get their livelihood kits.

The distribution of livelihood starter kits was part of the Livelihood Seeding Project (LSP), a component of the Rehabilitation and Recovery Program of DTI which seeks to help Yolanda-affected micro entrepreneurs in the Industry, Trade and Services (ITS) sectors.

The starter kit is inclusive of either goods, materials, tools or small equipment worth P5,000.00 intended to regain back the livelihood of affected micro-entrepreneurs in the Province of Capiz.

In her message, Pollentes said the province was able to receive a total of P6.75M worth of livelihood starter kits for its 1,350 beneficiaries. These beneficiaries are continuously being monitored and provided assistance by the DTI to help sustain their businesses, she added.

Prior to their receiving of the kits, all LSP beneficiaries are required to participate in appropriate trainings and/or seminars to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills in managing their businesses.

DTI OIC-Regional Director Rebecca M. Rascon said that this project aims to initiate economic recovery to micro-entrepreneurs such as sari-sari stores, trading, handicrafts and furniture making, food processing, native delicacy making, food vending, and marine-based production.
