DTI Aklan gives Timbangan ng Bayan sets in 17 towns

The DTI is giving two (2) 15-kg capacity weighing scales with steel enclosures to public markets under its Timbangan ng Bayan project.

The DTI Aklan Provincial Office will install a total of 34 Timbangan ng Bayan facilities to the public markets of 17 municipalities in the Province of Aklan, with each town receiving two sets of weighing scales and steel enclosures.

The project is in accordance with the mandate of agency to protect the welfare and interest of consumers against deceptive, unfair and unconscionable sales acts or practices. The project is being implemented nationwide by the DTI.

As counterpart, local government units shall provide install the facility in identified strategic areas of their respective public market, provide the manpower for its operations and maintenance and calibrate the weighing scales at regular intervals, among others.

Through the Timbangan ng Bayan project, consumers can determine on the spot the true weight and measure of any article bought or purchased in the public market; thus, ensuring that they get the best value for their hard-earned money.

DTI Aklan OIC-Provincial Director Ma. Carmen I. Iturralde has encouraged the public to use the weighing scales in their respective municipalities to ensure fair trade among vendors and consumers.
