DTI VI resolves complaints within reasonable time

The Department of Trade and Industry VI has received a total of 347 consumer complaints from its provincial offices in 2015. Of these data, 340 were resolved through mediation, and one through adjudication while six were endorsed to other government agencies.

DTI-VI’s Trade Development Division Chief Felisa Judith Degala said that the 347 complaints received by the DTI PO’s were 100 percent resolved. “Almost all of the complaints were settled within 10 working days through mediation,” she said.

She noted that the bulk of complaints involved violations of Republic Act No. 7394 or Consumer Act of the Philippines. Complaints on Product and Service Warranty has the highest percentage of consumer complaints.

Other complaints include product quality and safety, misleading advertisement and fraudulent sales promotion practices, liability for product and services, regulation of repair and service firms and Price Tag Law, among others.

Meanwhile, Degala said that there were 4,261 consumer complaints from business establishments last year based on the reports submitted by their respective Consumer Welfare Desks. Of these, 4,153 of the total complaints had already been resolved, while 108 are still “in process.”
