The
DTI-Consumer Protection and Advocacy Bureau (CPAB) informs the public that
Toyota Motor Philippine Corp. (TMPC) offers special service campaign for the airbag
sensor assembly of its Toyota Lexus LX470 vehicles.
“The
Special Service Campaign covers four (4) units vehicle with production period
January 7, 2003 to September 2, 2004 officially sold in the Philippines,” said
DTI-CPAB Director Atty. Anselmo B. Adriano.
On Feb. 2, 2016, Atty. Rommel
Guttierez, TMPC First Vice President for Government and Industry Affairs,
informed the DTI that “Toyota Motor Philippines will initiate a Special Service
Campaign for the Airbag Sensor Assembly of certain Lexus LX470 vehicles” as
part of the company’s “commitment to product safety and quality.”
Gutierrez explained, “For the
affected vehicles, the Airbag Sensor Assembly has an improper Airbag System
program wherein the roll rate sensor may not be properly calibrated, if the
vehicle experiences a body roll motion.”
“At this condition, the Airbag
Sensor Assembly may erroneously detect a rollover after the vehicle experiences
another body roll motion, which may prematurely activate both the Curtain
Shield Airbags and Seatbelt Pre-tensioners that could increase the risk of
minor injury to the occupants,” Gutierrez added.
Further, Gutierrez said, “As a
preventive measure, Toyota will replace the Airbag Sensor Assembly with a new
one, at no cost to our customers.” He said the company will contact the
affected customers and invite them to bring their vehicles to authorized
dealers for servicing.
