Pavia, Cabatuan and Sta. Barbara LGUs ink Timbangan ng Bayan MOA with DTI

The Local Government Units of Cabatuan, Pavia and Santa Barbara recently signed the Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Iloilo Provincial Office implementing the Timbangan Ng Bayan (TnB) Project in their respective areas. 

Timbangan ng Bayan, according to Engr. Diosdado P Cadena Jr., Provincial Director of DTI Iloilo, is a joint project of DTI and the LGUs which aims to promote and encourage fair, honest and equitable relations among parties in consumer transaction and protect consumers against deceptive, unfair and unconscionable sales acts or practices.

Both DTI and the LGUs are implementing agencies in the regulation of practices relative to weights and measures as specified in Chapter II Title III of Republic Act 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

DTI Iloilo provided the local governments of Cabatuan, Pavia and Santa Barbara each with two (2) weighing scales and two (2) steel cages.  As counterpart, the LGUs will provide two strategic locations in the public market, footing materials for the installation of the steel cages, provide manpower to take charge of the operations and maintenance of the TnB, among others.

Santa Barbara Mayor Dennis S. Superficial and Ms. Lucille S. Cachuela showoff the calibrated weighing scales which will be installed at the Santa Barbara Public Market.  The weighing scales were provided by DTI Iloilo Provincial Office through the Timbangan Ng Bayan Project.  With them is Economic Enterprise Head Tina Sudario-Capio.
